some lies straight people believe about “coming out”

mattachinereview:

all queers know that they are queer, despite the work that heterosexism and cissexism do to alienate them from this fact

the only possible reason for a queer person not to come out is that they’re in a queerphobic environment

alienation from the self as produced by heterosexism does not exist

alienation from the self as produced by cissexism does not exist

if you’re queer and not out, there’s something wrong with you

  • And then he asked me if I wanted to go home with him. That’s a lie too, of course. There were two hours between our bedside conversation and his invitation, but if I’m going to tell you the truth, sacrifices have to be made. The point is that I was patient and I knew a great deal about straight men and their options at 4am.

You have to understand I had been passive aggressively trying to get myself killed for months. I was also on a constant vigil for “writing material” which, I now know, is basically the same thing as passive aggressively trying to get myself killed.

imagine that you and your best friend are really close. everyone around school sees it and thinks it’s cute, and then one day, people start thinking it’s more than just best friends. nothing has changed between you two, you’ve done the same thing you’ve always done, only now people are putting it under a magnifying glass. people start putting your names together, start asking you when you’re going to “come out,” start harassing your significant others because they’re “bearding the relationship.”

think about how suffocating and awkward that’d be. think about how much of a strain and a dent that’d put on/in your friendship. suddenly, it’s like there’s this gigantic fortress placed between you and your best friend and you feel like you can’t hug them in public anymore because then your significant other will get yelled at for being in the way.

why would you ever want to do that to somebody? why do you feel so incredibly invested in someone else’s life to ruin it for what you see it as? everyone wakes up in the morning in control of one mind, and that one mind is the one that they need to take care of. let other people live. i’m honestly completely serious when i say that i can see one direction breaking up, louis and harry never speaking, and it all being because of the deluded, entitled fans.

please please please, stop. it’s not your place and it never will be. your head will lay on your pillow at night just the same whether or not “larry stylinson” is real.

i don’t have to imagine. when i was in middle school, people decided my friend and i were together. i wasn’t out as queer at the time, but i still got bullied. we never did anything beyond normal interaction between two young girls - we held hands sometimes, sat close together, whispered - nothing that was actually “gay.” i got pushed into things. i got stopped from going to class, i had people stop talking to me. people deciding that i was queer was enough license to bully me. listen up, one direction fans. what you’re doing is not okay. you are hurting people. you need to stop.

remember the time Richard Dawkins said teaching religion to a kid is worse than sexually abusing them.

He also said atheists in the U.S. are treated like queer people were in the 50s

Remember that time Richard Dawkins told a woman to get over being sexually harassed.

Remember that time Richard Dawkins told a woman to get over being sexually harassed via racism and Islamophobia

  • as gross as they seem from what google has provided, and there’s no reason for them to have not have come through or else explained why to their backers, and the fact that apparently they go out of their way to harrass people (which might be a problem if they find these? I doubt they will but you never know) I still have to feel a bit bad for them because a lot - most even - of the articles / posts on Riley & what they’ve done were clearly going out of their way to misgender them, and as a queer poc they’re going to be getting loads of hatred from people that just do want to hate on them for that

I can see why that would make them defensive and unwilling to consider criticism from people they don’t know at all on the internet

doesn’t excuse that, when they do respond to critics, they appear to be comfortable using homophobic and ableist language, and telling people to kill themselves.

  • all my friends talk about all the time is like ‘ooh rosie is a bitch oooh is ollie gay’ OMG I DON’T CARE and I’m the only one who doesn’t watch it

idk who anyone is other than Ollie, but the new adverts of him deciding to be gay ‘this month’ and … from what I’ve heard of him he’s always been v definite about being stereotypically gay / long hair etc but straight? maybe I’m wrong but all the snippets from the advert just scream that the producers of the show are making him do it and ugh get off my screen

‘determined to be gay, aren’t you’ ‘yes, this month’ AGH claws at face

and the series adverts? with them jousting with mops and suits of armour and stuff?

I have never watched more than five minutes of an episode but I actually just hate it so fucking much. To an irrational extent. It makes me sad people watch it.

i watched three whole seasons of it, until the casual sexism and racism finally made me stop. i also got tired of the ‘lol we’re nerds!!!’ thing, even though i guess that’s the whole premise of the show. some episodes are funny tho.

yeah, that’s why I didn’t watch it when I originally became aware of it, but I’ve been watching some episodes for the past couple of days and thought that they were bearable and then Pria? Pria is all the same racist jokes about India that they used to do for Raj, except Lennard says them and then goes ‘that’s not racist is it’ and she kind of smiles mysteriously and approvingly

why would you bother doing that like that makes it any less racist?
